Ceramic Blankets
Flexible, light ceramic fibre blankets that wrap furnaces, kilns and pipes, and cut heat loss and fuel costs.
Product Information
Product Details
A ceramic fibre blanket is a soft, flexible mat of long ceramic fibres, needled together so it holds its shape without a binder. It is one of the most useful insulation materials for anything hot: it is light, easy to cut and fit, and it keeps a lot of heat in.
Main features
- Light and flexible. It bends around curves, pipes and odd shapes.
- Low heat loss. It saves fuel and keeps the outside of the furnace cooler and safer.
- Low heat storage. A light lining heats and cools fast, which saves time and energy in batch furnaces.
- Strong against thermal shock. It does not crack when heated or cooled fast.
- No binder. No smoke or smell on first heating.
Grades and sizes
| Grade | Classification temperature (about) |
|---|---|
| Standard | 1,260 °C |
| High purity | 1,260 °C, for cleaner, longer use |
| Zirconia-containing | 1,430 °C |
Common density is 96 or 128 kg/m³ (a higher density means a stronger blanket that handles gas flow better). Common thicknesses are 13, 25 and 50 mm, sold in rolls.
Where it is used
- Furnace and kiln linings, in layers or as folded modules
- Furnace doors and seals
- Insulation of pipes, boilers and turbines
- Fire protection and heat shields
- Repair work on hot linings
Tips for use
- Choose a grade at least 100–150 °C above your working temperature.
- In hot gas flow, a higher density or a board on the hot face lasts longer.
- Wear gloves, long sleeves and a dust mask when cutting.
