Ceramic Rollers
Strong ceramic rollers that carry tiles, glass and metal parts through roller kilns and furnaces at high temperature.
Product Information
Product Details
Ceramic rollers are long ceramic tubes that turn inside a roller kiln or roller-hearth furnace (a furnace where the load rides on a bed of turning rollers instead of a belt or a car). They carry tiles, sanitary ware, glass sheets or metal parts through the hot zone, so they must stay straight and strong at high temperature for a long time.
Main features
- Stay straight when hot. A good roller does not bend or sag under load, so the product moves evenly and does not crack.
- Resist thermal shock. Rollers near the kiln entry and exit see fast temperature changes; the right material keeps them from cracking.
- Smooth surface. A clean surface helps stop glaze and dust from sticking and building up.
- Long service life. Fewer roller changes mean fewer stops.
Common materials
| Material | Typical use |
|---|---|
| Alumina-mullite | Ceramic tile and sanitary ware kilns, the most common type |
| High-alumina | Hotter zones and heavier loads |
| Fused silica | Glass tempering and bending furnaces, very low thermal expansion |
| Silicon carbide | Very high temperatures and heavy loads |
Where they are used
- Ceramic tile and porcelain kilns
- Sanitary ware and tableware kilns
- Glass tempering and glass bending lines
- Metal heat-treatment furnaces with roller hearths
Keeping rollers in good shape
Rollers last longer when they are cleaned regularly, turned without stopping while the kiln is hot, and changed one at a time with care. Our article on ceramic rollers in roller kilns has more tips.
How to order
Please send us: the outside diameter, the wall thickness, the total length, the end shape (plain, grooved or with holes), the kiln zone and its temperature, and the product the kiln makes. If you have a sample or a drawing, it helps us match it exactly.
